Chris Baxter is the Principal of Baxter IP, Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, is a Fellow of The Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), a registered New Zealand patent attorney and a Member of:

• International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI)

Before founding Baxter IP patent attorneys in 2007, Chris was an in-house patent attorney at ResMed, one of Australia's largest medical devices manufacturers. Chris has also worked at two large Australian patent and trade mark attorney firms.

Chris has a Masters Degree in Industrial Property from the University of Technology, Sydney and received first class honours and the thesis prize in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Sydney.

Chris handles patent applications across a spectrum of technologies including:

• Information communication & technology particularly power, telecommunications and security systems
• Mechanical and mining engineering
• Aeronautical engineering and fluid mechanics
• Computer implemented business methods

Chris has extensive experience in international intellectual property law and regularly presents to firms overseas on comparative patent law, particularly as it relates to software. In 2011, Chris presented to firms in the United States and China and in 2010, to firms in Japan and Korea. Having been interviewed on the subject of international IP in the news, at conferences, business magazines and recently live on the Apple v. Samsung patent wars on CNBC, Chris stays abreast of developments in each country by attending international IP conferences and by staying in close contact with his network of international associates. 

Chris is also a Director of Baxter IP Commercialisation Advisers, a full service intellectual property commercialisation consultancy, and a Director of Biometic, a biotechnology startup that manufactures bioabsorbable scaffolds for cell culture.

As a result of his commercial and industrial experience, Chris is very upfront and open with associates about their clients prospects of success and suggests strategies to maximise IP protection by taking advantage of unique aspects of Australian patent law and procedure.
